Last week Samantha found these three bunnies a couple feet away from their original den. You could get right up close to them and they didn't budge. It was very hard for the kids to keep their hands off! The kids would go out and check on them every few hours and the most they would do is move to a new spot, but would remain all cuddled up like this. They were the size of an adult fist.
Saturday Samantha was looking out the window and said the mother rabit was out there trying to move the bunnies. Of course we all went to the window to look and sure enough she was. It looked like she was nudging them to wake up and play. It was so cute to watch them run around the yard. All you could see were their heads bouncing around in the grass. The picture below you can see the mother rabit on the driveway with one of the bunnies.
As the bunnies hopped around the yard, we counted 6, so I'm not sure where the other three were hiding! It was so neat to watch. After the bunnies would play a little bit, the mother would hop around like she was rounding them back up, then she would go lay in the driveway while they played some more. She did this about 3 times while we were watching. In the picture below you can see two babies (specs) on the edge of the driveway, right behind the Explorer.
We probably watched the bunnies for a good 40 minutes. The picture below shows two babies right below our font window.
At one point we did go outside b/c Gma Julie and Donnie stopped and the kids wanted to tell them all about the bunnies and not to run them over! As we were walking out, Hannah sort of stepped on one. But Donnie nudged its butt with a stick and it hopped off. It is so funny to listen to her tell the story! If you see or talk to her, make sure to ask her about it.
