There are plenty of stories for us to tell and as Marissa gets older, there will be even more. There is never a dull moment in our household and that's the way we like it!

Typical Nielsen Camping Trip

This past weekend we went to the Black Hills to do some camping and see the sights. Neither Tyson nor I have ever been there before so we were all pumped to get out there and see everything and be able to camp b/c we love camping!! We left on Thursday night after we got off work and drove to Mitchell, SD to stay in a hotel for the night. The total drive ended up being about 9 hours with all the potty stops we had to make. Friday morning we were on the road by 7:00 am and arrived at our campsite around 11:30 am. The camp ground that we stayed at was called Big Pines and it was right outside of Custer. It was a really nice camp ground...the bathrooms were super nice and clean and the owners were very nice. They actually had us coming in on Thursday night and they didn't make us pay for that night. That day/night was really nice. It was a little cool, but it was almost perfect camping weather once we got the fire going. We did all the camping type stuff that day/night b/c we figured that we had all day Saturday to do the siteseeing. The next morning it was raining and freezing cold. We had to make hot chocolate to get warm. Luckily the bathrooms were heated so that really helped us get warmed up. We headed up to Mt. Rushmore first and of course b/c of the rain it was foggy and there was no way we were going to see anything so we went to the cave. The cave was very neat and the tour was an hour long. I would recommended going if you are ever there. The girls even liked it. Then we went into Rapid City to buy a heater for our tent cuz we didn't want to freeze again that night. The afternoon we stopped at Crazy Horse and that was pretty interesting for Tyson and I, boring for the girls. I wouldn't suggest going there unless you really liked history b/c that's all it is and it was sort of expensive. Sunday was just as foggy and we didn't get to do anything that day either before we left. It was so disappointing b/c we were so looking forward to doing all that stuff and then the weather was so crappy. We didn't even get to drive through bear country b/c it was so foggy!! Anyway, the next time that we go at least we will know where everything is at and hopefully have better weather!
