There are plenty of stories for us to tell and as Marissa gets older, there will be even more. There is never a dull moment in our household and that's the way we like it!

Our week in review...

A week ago Samantha came home not feeling well at the end of the school day. It was odd b/c Hannah and I had had lunch with Samantha that day at school and she was fine. But when she got home at 3:30, she was running a temp and didn't feel good. Throughout the weekend we watched her and it seemed like normal flu-type things. She had a fever around 100, was throwing up, and complained of a headache. By Sunday her fever was at 103 and she was complaining of chest pain and back pain with a lot of coughing. I called in on Monday to stay home with her and made her a doctors appointment b/c her temp was getting pretty high even though we got it to come down a bit with Motrin. Her doctor's appointment was at 1:30 and when they took her temp during that, it was 103.9 and if you were touching her, it felt like she was on fire. When Samantha was telling the doctor her symptoms, he said right away that it could possibly be pneumonia just listening to the things she was complaining about. So we headed to the lab to check her white blood cell count and then to radiology for chest x-rays. When we were down in lab they pricked her finger and could barely squeeze enough blood out of her finger to fill the two small tubes. They said that was a sign of dehydration.
After seeing the doctor again, he said she did have DBL pneumonia. The picture above is when we first got up to the room, however, she did not feel like this. By the time they got her IV hooked up and settled in, her temp was at 104 and her heart beat was super fast. She was also taking about 60 small breathes a minute when I guess normally it should be about 12 breathes. The doctor said all of these were common symptoms of pneumonia. Tyson stayed with her that night in the hospital and I went home with the other two and when I left the nurse was putting cold rags on her head, under her armpits, and on her feet to break the fever. It must have worked because when I came back in the morning her temp was down to normal.
She ended up being in the hospital from 3:30 pm on Monday to 8:00 pm on Wednesday night. She was pretty much ready to go after that first night, and didn't understand why she needed to stay. Anyway, she is doing just fine now and so far no one else has gotten any sicker than coughing and a runny nose. The picture above pretty much sums up the last day we were there. She was so goofy I swear they were putting silly juice in her IV! We kept her out of school until today just to make sure she was good to go. Plus the doctor said it would be a good idea just so she didn't catch something else and end up in the hospital again.
A funny story about her hospital experience: The first night she was there she had some visitors (Gma's and Gpa) and the next day she had a few visitors and they all brought her a gift. So my aunt Jackie calls to see how she is doing and when I hung up I told Samantha she had called. She says, "Is she coming to see me?" "No, she just called to see how you were doing." Samantha- "Oh, what did she buy me?" "Why would she buy you something?" Samantha- "Because everyone keeps bringing me things."
